    Hello Marcie

I’m the Chicago African American issues examiner. I just recently wrote an article where a I speak about the historical influence black people had on skating and bike riding. And why I’m surprised that more of us don’t get involved in these sports. Yes skating is a sport!!!(i wholeheartedly agree with you)

I featured your blog in my article. It’s in a link towards the bottom of the article. I hope you enjoy it. Leave some feed back and tell me what you think.

    Peace.

Also do you live in Chicago? You mentioned Harold Washington Library. I love going up there when I get some time. 🙂

Thanks for stopping through. I am actually conducting in-depth research on this topic and I will have a site up by the 2nd week of August for people to share their stories. Just a little history for you. Black people in Chicago could not skate indoors in Chicago until the late 1930s and they did not skate indoors in Gary, IN until the 1950s.

Hello Marcie – I own a roller skating facility in the Chicago area, and have lots of information on the chicago rinks that are gone on our website. The fastest growing segment of our sport besides roller derby is the African American community that not only patronizes their home rinks but travel on the weekends to huge skate parties around the country, most notably Midwest and East Coast. We host an event each July for 1,000 skaters that skate all night long. If you need more information, you can visit our website at http://www.orbitskate.net – click links, Old Chicago rinks and that will get you to the area with the info on rinks like White City, deplorably named appropriately and other rinks that were much more diversified. Feel free to drop me an email if you want to chat. – Sandra

Hi Marcie , I am really interested in blogging more, I recently started blogging about artists and I am getting lots of emails to do more articles on different artist as well. I feel in some places my writing may be weak. If you have time in your busy schedule soon would you mind giving me a few pointers. I’m looking to write a book in the near future as well and any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
