Don’t Forget My Social Media Seminar for Community Organizations on 11/18/11

16 Nov

Great News! I will conducting a Social Media Seminar for Community Organizations on Friday, November 18, 2011.

Title: Community Organizations: Use Social Media to Increase Your Reach

As the “go-to” centers in the community, residents in local and nearby neighborhoods rely on community organizations to provide information, resources and assistance. While their works are known locally, these organizations could expand their reach and results through social media.

In this 3-hour hands-on seminar, Executive Directors, Program Managers, Marketing Specialists, Public Relations Professionals, Communications Professionals and other staff members from Community Organizations will learn:

  • How to get found on the first page of Google using WordPress
  • How to increase your organization’s exposure on blogs, Facebook and Twitter
  • To reach a larger online audience through live blogging events
  • To reduce your social media workload by connecting all social sites

I’m Still Heart Broken About Troy Davis

26 Sep
Troy Davis

Troy Davis

I’m still heart broken about Troy Davis, the man that was executed last Wednesday, September 21, 2011, EVEN though seven of the nine witnesses recanted their stories and no weapon was found. I pretty much live blogged the entire Democracy Now taping of his final hours while watching Twitter streams. The support was overwhelming.

What really freaked me out, though, was the Troy Davis Facebook page. It was there as long as he was alive, but as soon as he died, so did the page.

A few people on Twitter compared Davis’ trial to Casey Anthony. His execution was termed a “legal lynching.”  There were lots of stars in Hollywood tweeting their support. It was amazing.Ok, one particular Tweet was rather funny to me. It said something like, “Dear Georgia, we’ll give you Casey Anthony for Troy Davis. Sincerely, Florida.” That was one of the best ones.

This execution came at a time that was really emotional for me because I had spoken on the Social Media & Social Activism panel for Social Media Week Chicago, and Davis was one of the subjects I mentioned. And, there are so many others like him now. They are either on death row waiting for their execution, they are in jail awaiting trial, or they are the people going on about their business that could fall victim at any time.

Anyway, I’m done here. Just wanted to share my thoughts. No justice, no peace!

How do you feel about the executive of Troy Davis?

Marcie’s Mission to Become Social Media, Multimedia and Anti-Media

11 Sep

I am currently working on being a social media, multimedia and anit-media expert.  While it may seem like a lot, it all goes hand-in-hand.  As a blogger with a great interest in Web 2.0, it only makes sense to learn about all of the Web 2.0 tools.  Ultimately, this will help my blogs grow.  Becoming knowledgeable in multimedia will help my blog grow also because I can include photos and videos.  Also, it will enhance my technology knowledge.  Lastly, being anti-media will help As NOT Seen on TV grow because I can share details from different books that will sure to spark conversation.
